Dear Abigail – how nice to hear from you again. Yes, our day together was certainly quite an adventure, and I’m glad you’ve made it home in one piece. As you say, it was a shame that Mme Dufos neglected to tie up the dog, and it’s good to hear that Toby’s responding well to the antibiotics (and that the scar is less prominent than first feared). I’m sure that in years to come it’ll provide an interesting subject of conversation with his girlfriends (who are, of course, likely to be the only ones to see it).

It was also kind of you to enquire as to how well my car’s upholstery had cleaned up – and I can report that all traces of William’s little ‘accident’ have now been scrubbed out. The air freshener you kindly sent under separate cover continues to prove very effective though –and I’m sure that in a few weeks time will be surplus to requirements!

From your comments, I understand that Giles was less enamored of the farm than yourself - though I suspect his judgment may have been coloured by the unwanted attention of the Dufos’s pot bellied pig. On the plus side, it appears that his brief sprint around the farmyard has reawakened his interest in running which, given his sedentary lifestyle, is obviously a good thing. All that said, I’m delighted that you have persuaded him it’s the place for you, and I’ll put forward your offer to the owners accordingly. Assuming they accept, I’m sure that prior to completion all the cats can be rounded up and the tractor engine removed from the (otherwise charming) kitchen. I’ll also enquire as to the source of the arresting aroma below the bathroom and the whereabouts of the surprisingly absent toilet. And, yes, I expect there’s some connection between the two.
